After two decades one of my all-time favourite movies, Trainspotting, is getting a sequel and the trailer for Danny Boyle’s T2 Trainspotting is finally here. Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle and Kelly MacDonald are all back and the trailer is overflowing with all those nostalgic feels.
First there was an opportunity……then there was a betrayal. Twenty years have gone by. Much has changed but just as much remains the same. Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to the only place he can ever call home. They are waiting for him: Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle). Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.
I was a little worried when I heard that there was going to be sequel, however it looks like Danny Boyle has brought all the original crew back together for a film that will not only do the original justice, but will introduce the smacked-out gang to a whole new generation.
Even Irvine Welsh, the author of the novel that the 1996 film was adapted from has praised T2 Trainspotting, saying,
“It has managed to take the most dynamic elements of the [Trainspotting] book and Porno [Trainspotting sequel book, on which T2 is partially based] but also look forward to how it can be contemporary and present day… In some ways, I think it’s a better movie [than Trainspotting]… They have become such iconic characters and this is going to cement that status even more.”
After watching the trailer and hearing Welsh’s praise. I’m sold. Bring on February!
What did you think of the trailer?
