Netflix announce a prequel series to ‘The Dark Crystal’, 80’s kids rejoice!

Netflix seems to be the gift that keeps on giving. The streaming service has revealed that they’re bring back Jim Henson and Frank Oz’s cult classic, The Dark Crystal, as a television series featuring puppets and all. Let’s be honest, if you grew up in the 80s you would have definitely seen the movie and had somewhat nightmares due to the terrifying sinister Skeksis. However nightmares or not, it never stopped the film from becoming one of the most beloved 80’s classics.

They still send a little shiver down my spine!

The new series will be titled The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and will see Louis Leterrier helming the project. The 10-episode series will take place decades before the original film and will include brand new “state-of-the-art creatures” created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and conceptual designer behind the original film, Brian Froud.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will return to the world of Thra with an all new exciting adventure that sees three Gelfling discover the secret behind the Skeksis’ power, who will then set out on a journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world. Of which will obviously lead to the events of the 1982 film. I am so bloody excited for this! But for the love of God please go eat on the CGI!

While we’ve still got sometime to go before we see any new footage from the show, Netflix has shared a teaser that explores the incredible animatronics that brought the original to life.

What do you think of a Dark Crystal prequel? Will you watch it?
