Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hasn’t even been released yet and its sequel is already making headlines. First there was the news that a young gay Albus Dumbledore would be appearing prominently in the series, and anyone familiar with the Potterverse would be aware that this opens the opportunity for J. K. Rowling to explore his relationship with Grindelwald.
Now get excited for this, one of my favourite actors Johnny Depp is now set to join the magical universe of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, playing co-starring role in the David Yates directed sequel in 2017 that sees actor Eddie Redmayne return for the lead role of Newt Scamander.
While Warner Bros. Pictures is not revealing the role Depp will play however Hypable has added to speculation, stating they have a source involved with that film who claims the Pirates of the Caribbean star is indeed playing Grindelwald. If this news is truly. Holy shiz this is gonna be epic! The source also claims that while you won’t see his face his the first movie, you do indeed see the back of his head in a shot that appears at the very start of the movie.
The below still from a recently released preview is allegedly that shot.
Seriously if Johnny Depp ends up playing Grindelwald and the following sequels decently explore the character’s relationship with Albus Dumbledore, we’re going to be in for one hell of a treat!
Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them hit’s Australian cinemas on the 17th of November and I’m bloody giddy with excitement!
What do you think of Johnny Depp as Grindelwald?
