It’s nearly 1 am. I should be sleeping, but I’m wide awake. Fuck my life! My sleeping pattern is a little messed up after this weekend. It was the Easter Long Weekend. Didn’t get a single Easter Egg, but didn’t give one either so not really bothered. It’s an odd thought how growing up Easter used to be so exciting and now it’s just become another day in the year. Dare I say it? I’m growing up lol.
Overall I had a pretty good long weekend.Starting from Thursday Night, I attended local Brissy band Blonde on Blonde’s final Brissy gig at The Zoo. The band is heading of to Berlin. Since booking bands for Ric’s Bar I’ve really found myself getting to meet some awesome bands. So while it’s great to see bands going off to bigger and better things it is still sad to see them go.
Since Friday was Good Friday, all the clubs were shutting at midnight, so we all headed off to a house party that turned out to be all kinds of epic.
It had been a while since I went to a good house party and this was one of the best. Awesome people, copious amounts of alcohol, and i found some pretty random art in the toilet…
Don’t even get me started, your guess is as good as mine. I woke up later Friday morning with a picture of this on my phone and I was like WTF? You know you’ve had a great night out when you’re that boozed that you don’t remember taking a photo of a picture of a girl having a period!
On the Saturday I went to the opening night of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I at Qpac. Was a pretty good show. I remember growing up watching Lisa McCune on Blue Heelers, so it was a rather pleasant surprise to see her take to the stage as Anna. I wasn’t disappointed, that girl can sure sing. The costumes and set design was truly breathtaking. If you’re a fan of classic musicals this is definitely a show worth checking out. I was very impressed. I’ve had “Getting To Know You” stuck in my head ever since. lol
Sunday I had a day shift working behind the bar. Rarely happens these days since I’m usually in the office booking bands and dealing with functions and so on, so it was good to change things up a bit. Saturday night I went to a gig at Ric’s Bar featuring Ghost Audio and The Androgyny. The gig was raising money for an assistance dog for Ghost Audio’s lead singer’s younger sister. I think they raised about $400 which was pretty damn cool considering it was a Sunday and most people were down south for this year’s Blues and Roots Festival. Afterwards I hung out with the bands and ended up having a few games of poker and a few drinks.
A few of us decided to head out but that was cut short when we saw a mate who was pretty trashed and not being able to function. God knows what he had, but when he decided to start pissing in the middle of the street in front of everyone and could barely stand up that was out cue to make sure we got him home safely. The guy was beyond trashed. Won’t go into too much detail, but something makes me think next time I see him he will be all kinds of apologetic. I’ve partied in my time, but one thing I can be proud of is I do know my limits.
Today has been spent in a blur of going in and out of consciousness. A nap here and there. The only problem is now I’m wide awake and I really should be sleeping.
