As the postal surveys for marriage equality begin to appear in our letterboxes, the campaigns for “Yes” and “No” will continue to heat up. At times it’s hard not to be downhearted by some of the B.S. being spewed from the “No” side, but it’s also been encouraging to see the overwhelming support for marriage equality in Australia.
Throughout the marriage equality campaign, plenty of businesses and corporations have announced that they are on the right side of history, and are putting their support behind the “Yes” campaign.
One such company is Coca-Cola Australia who is not only taking a stand for marriage equality but they’re also putting money where their mouth is.
They’re showing their support by releasing a line of ‘Love’ cans in support of marriage equality. Even cooler than the new look cans, is the fact that proceeds from the sales will be going towards the “Yes” campaign.
Coca-Cola has a long history of standing up for “diversity, inclusion, and equality,” and their statement regarding the campaign firmly emphasises it.
“We proudly strive for these qualities in our own business and support these rights for all in society. Every person has the right to happiness, so we believe it’s time for a change in Australia. No matter who you are or who you love, all couples should be treated equally.
We understand that not everyone will agree with our stance and we respect people’s right to hold a different view. We hope they’ll respect our right to support our staff, their family and friends, and our customers and consumers so that all can share the simple happiness of being together.”
Obviously, don’t expect Coca-Cola at any of the Australia Christian Lobby gatherings!
